Mia is 1!
Here is what Mia has been up to these days...Her 12-month stats: We go to the doctor next week
Eating
YAY! We made it an entire year of breastfeeding, even with our rough start (read about that here)! Now I'm going to let Mia lead the way with weaning.
New foods she has eaten
Peanut butter with toast
Pickles (which she broke out with a rash around her mouth, I freaked out!)
Chicken Parmesan
White beans with tomatoes and Italian sausage
Chicken tenders (which set her GERD off...really bad decision on my part)
Southwest chicken skillet
Sweet potato fries
Turkey sliders
Birthday Cake!

Sleeping
She still wakes up to eat at night, but for the most part she is sleeping from 10 pm - 9 am (Mia and I are night owls).
Favorite activities
- Dancing
- Eating chicken (she would eat chicken all day if we let her)
- Sorting her toys and then resorting her toys
- "Helping" with the laundry
- Going on walks
- Trying to break out of her room and crawl as fast as she can down the hallway
Not so favorite things
- Being in her car seat at night (I think she is scared of the dark)
- The vacuum
- Sitting still/getting her diaper changed
- She has 7 teeth total (4 on the top and 3 on the bottom)
- She dances to anything
- She took 5 steps on her birthday. The day after she started walking more. She's still a little unstable but will walk quite a good distance. It's kind of like she is trying to walk too fast, almost like she wants to skip walking and go straight to running.
- She says mama, dada, bye-bye, hi, duck, dog and done (and consistently uses them correctly)
- She barks when the dogs bark
- She likes to mimic what we do (she will smack her lips, blow kisses, and click her tongue after we do)
- She signs milk and eat
- She has been doing yoga poses, similar to downward facing dog
- She claps, she'll even stand up and clap
Personality
Mia is a lot of fun. She loves playing and will have you cracking up with all of the cute things she does while playing (like smashing her face on the drum-see pic below). She also has a quick temper and will get upset if you don't understand what she is trying to communicate. We are trying to get her to sign more to help her communicate. She is also still very independent and wants to do everything herself! She definitely does not like the word no. She has also been pushing boundaries to see if you really mean no when you say it.
p.s. I won't be doing monthly updates anymore, the next one will be at 18 months to correspond with her wellness visits. I will keep updating the blog, I just won't do monthly updates now that she is 1. Thanks for reading along with Mia's first year!

On Mia's actual birthday we had a pretty normal day. The weather was not the best, so we just ended up taking her to Buy Buy Baby to "pick out" some toys. While she napped that day I baked her a smash cake for after dinner. I am not a baker, but I tried my best...
We originally wanted a photographer to come out and take photos of her, but instead we attempted a photo shoot ourselves. Mia had other plans.
| She really likes her new piano |
Mia decided she does not like cake because it's messy. Once she touched the icing, she tried flicking it off and crawled away!
We even tried in the high with no luck there either...she tried pushing the plate off the high chair! So much for a "smash" cake.
I eventually pulled the three layers apart and let her pick at the cake. In hindsight, I should have only done one layer...live and learn.
Here is a sneak peak of what's to come for her party on Saturday. The theme is UNO!
