The reality of snow days

Dallas has been abnormally cold these days with several ice/snow days. I remember when childless me used to get angry when I saw statuses about cabin fever. I naively used to think what a privilege to get to stay home and that "cabin fever" was when people were unjustly complaining. As I previously mentioned this was my thought process before Mia back when I was ignorant of the fact that being cooped up in a house days on end with a toddler can make anyone go mad.

Mia and I usually go on walks in the evening to get her to unwind and lets be honest that is my time to listen to some podcasts/music and unwind myself. With this weather, we haven't been able to go on our walks. I was so desperate the other night I put her in the stroller and took her for a "walk" around the house.

As a nurse, I still wish I did not have to drive to work in the snowy/icy mess, but now I actually get it! Cabin fever is a real thing, and although people are in different stages of life, we can commiserate together when we are stuck in our houses with energetic children. The people who have to drive in the mess (first responders, medical professionals, police officers, etc.) also have the right to get irked when they see someone complain about staying home. I now see and understand both sides.

Any who, this past snow day (actual snow!) was the first time we took Mia out to play in it. The process started off really well, she was not sure why we were bundling her up, but she started off happy.

And then we tried to put her boots on...

I don't know why she hates shoes so much, but she absolutely hates them! I showed her that mommy is wearing boots as well and she calmed down.

We took her outside, put her down and she acted like she was paralyzed in her death boots. We tried to distract her with some snow, but she wanted nothing to do with the stuff. There was a blast of cold air, she gasped and then laughed...such a silly girl! Once she was in a better mood, we tried to show her the snow again...nothing. She watched the dogs run around, she got bored, and we took her inside. The whole ordeal lasted maybe 15 minutes.

We got some cute pictures, though, so that's all that matters!

We are looking forward to Spring and were so thankful for the beautiful weather on Saturday. We were able to go on a walk with the rest of our neighborhood. Everyone was outside yesterday, here's to hoping for more days above 60.

p.s. Godspeed to those parents dealing with their child's messed up sleeping schedule with the time change!
