A world apart

Last week Mia and I were driving home when I ended up going another route unexpectedly. We ended up stumbling upon a community garden in Farmers Branch. It was a beautiful day so I decided we should go check it out. There was a sign welcoming visitors, so we went exploring. The only rule that we saw was to not pick/harvest the gardens.

The garden was beautiful with many raised flower beds.

Row after row you could see the care and the time that went into keeping these gardens going. I was in awe of the commitment the caretakers of this community garden had for these plants.

Mia really enjoyed the garden as well and was able to see some butterflies.

As we kept exploring we came across another section of the garden that had fruit trees and even had some grape vines.

We sat on a bench in the garden and took it all in. This place was so peaceful and a place that you could come and get lost in your thoughts. Or bring a book and get lost in a good story surrounded by nature. I loved it.

Mike built me a raised flower bed in Frisco. I had a flower garden and I enjoyed it, but life got in the way and it was overrun with weeds. Once we moved and Mia came along I knew I wouldn't have time for a garden, but it has always been in the back of my mind. It's one of those...when I grow up I want to have a garden kind of thoughts, HA! For now I think Mia and I will just come and visit this garden more often.

When we were about to leave the garden, I saw this bridge over I-635. I thought since we were being adventurous we might as well go up on that bridge and check it out.

The garden and this bridge were a world apart. I-635 has to be one of the most hated highways in Dallas and is always under construction. This was around 5 pm, so the cars were whizzing by us. Everyone was in a rush and I could only imagine they were not happy to be in rush hour traffic.

Regardless, It was a nice perspective of the highway and I'm glad we were able to see it from this bridge.

When we were walking back to our car, I saw several different cars pull up to the garden. It was people coming to tend to their gardens after work...it was the two worlds coming together. I'm glad we were able to witness all of this and I am going to make it a point to slow down and literally smell the roses.

Speaking of gardens...our hydrangea bushes are finally coming along after all of this rain! I am so glad they are blooming!
