Please keep in mind that I am a night nurse and Mia and I are night owls. I work 2 nights a week (usually Thursday and Friday) and I am off the other 5 days, so this schedule is a typical day of when I am off. We have never followed a schedule per se, we just have a typical routine.
~945 am: Mia wakes up, nurses, and we lay around for a bit before we actually get out of bed (I am not a morning person!)
1015 am: We do Mia's morning routine, which includes:
- doing a quick abdominal massage to get any gas moving
- spraying saline in her nose for moisture
- giving her iron/vitamin D
- wiping the iron off her teeth and brushing them
1100 am: I pull Mia away from her toys and wrestle her into the high chair so she can eat breakfast. Sometimes I lose this fight and Mia just takes her food "to-go" while continuing to play. If Mia is in her high chair, I try to finish any of the chores I have in the kitchen (it is so much easier to put dishes away when you don't have a toddler "helping").
1130 am: Mia goes back to playing and I am able to finally eat breakfast. I scarf down my food and then play with Mia. Sometimes she will want me to play with her and sometimes she just wants to run around solo.
12 pm: This is around the time we try to run any quick errands that can be done before nap time.
130 pm: Lunch time for Mia.
~2 pm: Mia is usually ready to go down for a nap. She nurses and goes to sleep. Her nap can be as early as 1 or as late as 3 depending on if we have any errands to run or appointments to go to. The time she goes down for a nap ranges, but she typically sleeps for 1.5-2 hours.
While she naps I cram to do any household tasks that need to get done. If I still have time left over I will do some yoga, blog, read, pay bills, check emails, meal prep, etc.
4 pm: Mia is usually up and will either eat a snack or just nurse (depending on if she ate a good lunch before her nap).
5 pm: I get dinner ready (every other Monday, we go to the chiropractor, read about that here). We used to go on a walk at this time, but that has been pushed back until later now that it is so hot. Summertime also means grilling season, so Mike grills a lot these days.
6 pm: Family time! We eat dinner and then we usually watch any shows we need to catch up on Hulu or Netflix.
7 pm: After dinner, we go for a walk around the neighborhood or just go play in the front yard.
8 pm: We arrive back home and Mia starts to unwind (read: runs wild around the house to expend all of her energy)
9 pm: We start to get Mia ready for bed/bath time.
930 pm: Mia's bedtime routine:
- lotion and another quick abdominal massage
- teething tablets, punkin teething oil and/or gripe water (if teething)
- lavender essential oil on her feet
- brush her teeth
- read some books
10 pm: On a good day, she's asleep at this time, but she can stay awake as late as 11 pm. Once she goes to sleep, Mike and I finally have time to ourselves. Mike is not a night owl, so he falls asleep shortly after Mia does.
12 am: Mia usually wakes up and I bring her into our bed, she nurses, and falls back asleep. I go to sleep shortly after, usually by 2 am.
630 am: Mia wakes up, nurses, and goes back to sleep until she wakes up for good at 945 am and the day starts all over.
Mike is a realtor, so he's usually out and about showing homes or at the office. When he works from home, there are two of us against one, which is always nice. We are really fortunate to have such flexible schedules.
This "schedule" is definitely not something that always goes as planned, we just go with the flow of the day. Some days are more hectic when we have a lot of errands to run. Some days she doesn't go down for a nap until 4 pm and then does not go to sleep until midnight (usually thanks to teething!) and we just roll with it.
