Sleep regression is no joke!

Mia is generally a great sleeper at night.  At around 2.5 months, she started sleeping 6-8 hours straight overnight...until this past week!  I had heard about 4 month sleep regression, and I just figured she (luckily) skipped that phase.  HA, how naive!  Apparently it is 4-5 month sleep regression.  It can rear its ugly head after months of having a great sleeper around this age.

So...last week, she started waking up every 2-3 hours (like a newborn!) to either eat, be held, and/or gnaw on Sophie before going back to bed.  It was not a big deal at first, but it started to wear on me as the week progressed.  She seemed fine during the day, with no signs of illness, so I just kept going with the flow of things.

At first I thought maybe it was a growth spurt, but it kept happening past the usual 24-48 hour growth spurt time frame.

Then I thought it was because she gets so distracted during the day while she is eating and just was not getting enough calories to sustain her through the night (I still think this has something to do with it).  She is very distractible these days, we have to nurse in her room, with the lights off (she likes looking at lights), with the door closed...and that does not always work.  If the dogs walk past the room, her dad walks past/enters the room, she hears something outside/in the living room, my phone rings, she sees something that catches her interest, or just about anything will cause her to pop off, look around, and stop nursing.  So we nurse very frequently during the day to make up for this.

The other culprit I thought could be the cause is her teething, which might also be happening along with this sleep regression.

Mike also commented on her waking more at night while I was at work this past weekend.  So when Sunday rolled around I was exhausted from working all weekend with almost no sleep.  I was hoping that she would sleep through the night...but she didn't.  We were up every few hours.  I was frustrated and feeling discouraged.

So I turned to Google, and searched for answers.  I came across this article:

It gave me some hope that this too shall pass and that I am not the only one dealing with this.  It is also comforting knowing something abnormal your baby is doing is actually normal.  So I thought I should share this new found knowledge just in case it can help someone else.

Hopefully this will be over soon, and we can go back to getting some sleep around here!
Go to sleep, baby girl!
The struggle is real!
