Mia's nursery

We spend a lot of time in Mia's nursery playing, nursing, reading, and relaxing together.  I am so glad we spent so much time and consideration making it such a calming, comfortable, and fun place to be.  Her nursery really was a labor of love.

I started looking for ideas on Pinterest and Project Nursery before I even knew that Mia was going to be a girl.  At first I wanted something really bright and colorful, but I ended up falling in love with this rug and based the entire room around it.

The inspiration for the room

My step-mom owned a children's furniture store several years ago, and I was able to go through the storage and scored this rug!  My step-mom helped us design the nursery by helping us pick paint colors and fabric.

Paint samples and fabric swatches galore
We were torn between painting the walls grey or green.  It was kind of a big ordeal at the time. My husband was against grey walls, because he thought it would make Mia depressed, HA!  I thought it was modern and we could bring in color in other places.  Ultimately, we picked green with this accent striped wall.

Everything else started falling into place.  We were in the middle of a renovation with our house, while we were working on the nursery, so we worked on it up until the day before I was admitted to the hospital.  I love how everything came together.

I knew exactly what crib I wanted, since I loved the classic look of this Jenny Lind crib.  We searched and searched for a glider that we both liked, was comfortable, and did not wipe out our savings account.  Luckily, we found a great deal on this glider at Buy buy baby.  Buy buy baby had all of their gliders out and available for you to try out, which I think is so important, since you will spend so much time in it.  AND they take Bed, bath, and beyond coupons, so we got it for 20% off!  Buy buy baby > Babies R Us!

We got the cube storage container from my sister.  The floor lamp was from Target.  The bulletin board and wall growth chart were from Hobby Lobby.  The elephant in the crib was from Ikea.  The elephant sheets were from Target.  Her crib skirt was custom made.

We wanted a long dresser that we could also use for a changing table, and found this dresser at Ikea.  The knobs on the dresser are from my step-mom's old store.

The elephant prints are from Etsy.  Mia loves these elephant prints, she stares at them while we are changing her diaper and she talks to them...it is SO cute!  The frames are from Ikea.

The lamp is from Target.  The night stand is from my step-mom's old store.  The curtains were custom made from this fabric.  The chandelier was a craigslist find that we painted.

Here is a close up of her pillows that match her crib skirt.  I wanted something that was not too girly, but still fun and pink.

These were mementos from her baby shower on the bulletin board.  The framed prints came from a scrapbook kit my sister gave me for Mia's gender reveal.  The frames are from Ikea.

The ledges and frames are from Ikea.  The framed artwork were mementos from gifts given to Mia.  The elephant is a card received at her baby shower that I placed on craft paper.  The bird is a gift bag we received!

The two-tier basket is from Hobby Lobby.  The top tier holds her bows, shoes, and hair accessories and the bottom tier has diapers.  The elephant bank is from Target.

No post would be complete without some pictures of Mia!  So here are some from her newborn session that we took in her nursery!
